This shoe is ranked as one of the best adidas golf shoes that you can buy on the market, the Codechaos gives the user a top performance that doesn't hurt the wallet, and these shoes will definitely have heads turning out on the course.

For some, the bold and bright colors might not suit their taste, but the flexible and lightweight breathable performance certainly will. The upper is made of a multi-layer mesh that has a thin film on the top. What this offers you is waterproofing and durability for the shoe, while also giving you repellant qualities and making sure water and dirt do not stick to the shoe and stain them.

When it comes to technology in these shoes they do not disappoint, they have full-length boost cushioning, this is across the entire midsole. what this does is create an energy rebound and puts a spring in your step. There is also rubber wrapping around any parts that may expand when stepping giving a broader range of stability.  The grip from the bottom of the shoe was developed with swinging a golf club in mind, they studied the golf swing to see where loads were mainly inputted and made sure that the distribution and shifting of the weight did not cause any slipping.

These shoes come in at the high end of the budget but the Under Armour Charged Phantom Sl golf shoe will make sure to offer you longevity and style, as Under Armour is well known for manufacturing a lot of the best golf shoes that you can get.

Under Armour says they are ‘The golf brand for athletes,’ making it no big surprise that we think they have created one of the best hybrid crossover style shoes you can get. This is because the Phantom SL can be worn on or off the course with ease and not look out of place.

Not only is this a versatile shoe but it is a very comfy shoe too, it has a snug fit that comes from a Storm Flat Knit Collar that goes around the ankle. This makes your feet feel locked in but without feeling uncomfortable. Ther is also a TPU-infused yarn that wraps around the toe of the shoe, this also helps with feeling secure and makes sure you can swing as hard as you want without not feeling committed.

Not the most eye catching shoe

Puma has offered up a technology-packed shoe in the way of the Puma Ignite Fasten8 Pro, and we think it is one of the best spikeless shoes you can get. It offers a great mix of both support and comfort for out on the course.

When we tested this shoe we found that the best technology in this shoe gave you a comfortable and grippy feel while also feeling very supported within the shoe, making this a shoe you could wear all year round. This shoe from Puma features their PWRFrame tech, which they use in some of the best Puma golf shoes you can get in golf. This tech gives you a very stable platform, probably one of the best platforms for stability we have found in a spikeless shoe. What this did is instill lots of confidence no matter what lie you are in or how your feet are positioned.

The microfiber upper of the Fasten8 Pro is made to be fully waterproof while making sure you have superior comfort from the ignite foam which is used throughout the midsole of the shoe. These shoes felt great straight out of the box with very little breaking in needed.

Best for the office

When comfort is your main goal then the Contour Jogger Shoes made by FootJoy are really some of the best. they have a lovely soft suede upper giving great comfort with a padded tongue to hug the top of your foot. Pair this with a soft but responsive sole from the Stratolite foam, you can wear these shoes all day, every day, and not feel uncomfortable.

The Contour Jogger Shoes are some of the best spikeless golf shoes we have seen on the market and we think they bridge that gap between the course and the office. They are visually pretty and with the comfort and water resistance of these shoes they really do tick the boxes.

Best spiked

Adidas Tech Response 2.0 golf shoes review

Specifications

Sizes: 7-15 (wide fit available)
Waterproof : Water Resistant
BOA Option: No
Colors: 3 (Black, Grey and White)

Reasons to buy

+
Excellent value for money
+
Low profile outsole is comfortable and efficient on all ground types
+
Super lightweight

Reasons to avoid

-
Simple looks
-
Synthetic upper not as breathable as some

With the Tech Response 2.0 you get a variety of materials used in the upper to make the shoe comfortable and lightweight. The upper is made up of textile mesh, which is in the direct upper, this is then mixed with synthetic leather which is used for the bulk of the shoe.

Because of how lightweight this shoe is you get very little foot fatigue when you have walked the course. Also, with the Cloudfoam sock liner and midsole, you get plenty of support and cushioning underfoot. The outer sole has a mix of soft spikes and plastic lugs which help to deliver extra grip.

We find these shoes to look a little clumsy and boxy and the fact there are only three color choices for this shoe isn't great (fairly boring black, grey, and white) If they delivered some better options in way of style this shoe would tick more boxes.

Best waterproofing

stuburt pct II golf shoes

Specifications

Sizes: 7-12
Waterproof: 100%
BOA Option: No
Colours: 3 (White/Navy, Grey/Blue, Black)

Reasons to buy

+
Out-of-the-box comfort
+
Lightweight feel
+
Decent value for money

Reasons to avoid

-
Waxy finishes takes away from premium look
-
Some may feel it looks a little clumpy.

These shoes from Stuburt the PCT II golf shoes use a microfibre upper and have been fitted with a lightweight midsole that helps to prolong the life of the cushioning. We noticed on testing that these really were lightweight, straight out of the box they felt light in hand and on foot, while also being very comfortable too.

Comfort, however, is rather subjective so this may not be the case for you in terms of comfort depending on the shape and width of the foot. But with plenty of cushioning where it is needed the comfort certainly ticks a box for us.

Stuburt has a DRI-back technology which is also featured in this shoe for full waterproofing, they also offer a one-year waterproofing warranty. We found that the wax-style finish on these shoes was the only drawback and we think it may well divide opinion. they are not the first manufacturer to use this finish and we are sure won't be the last, however, some golfers just don't like it.

How we test golf shoes

Our golf shoe testing revolves around us putting the shoes through testing in different conditions and weather. This is so we can gain a better idea of overall performance in terms of factors like grip comfort, grip, stability, waterproofing, and how they look on the golf course. That means that every shoe in this guide has been personally tested by a member of the Golf Monthly team.

We find this is the best way to test Golf shoes, as it gives the consumer a feeling for how they perform in the real world. Especially in different variables like weather and ground conditions, as well as different stances and levels of power being put through the shoe.

By using the shoes we can tell little things like which shoes may be more narrow or wide and which shoes come up a little smaller than others in the same size. This allows us to pass valuable information to the consumer for they to make more informed decisions. We can also see which performs well in real life off the course, and whether some shoes rub more with the use or can go on the feet straight out of the box.

We are very comprehensive in our tests to the point where we will regularly attend product launches and meet with the manufacturer’s R&D experts to understand the new technology. That isn't to say manufacturers can buy a good review though, as all our reviews are made by golfers, for golfers.

How to choose a golf shoe

There are a number of factors to consider when picking out your next pair of golf shoes so to help you narrow down your search and inform your buying decision, below we have put together some key points.

1. Spiked or spikeless?

The models above are split into spiked (or cleated) and spikeless designs and there are pros and cons of each. Spiked golf shoes offer better grip and stability but don't sit as low to the ground as spikeless models.

Spikeless golf shoes offer off-course versatility. They are perfect for driving in the car to the golf course, playing a round, and then driving home again because they are usually light and comfortable, but most won't offer as much traction as a spiked shoe.

2. Waterproofing

If you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain then a waterproof shoe is a must. The best designs will keep your feet bone dry however if you play golf in glorious sunshine most of the time, then you may view other factors as more significant.

Many players choose to have one pair for winter and another, lighter pair for summer to keep them fresh and suit different requirements.

3. Getting the right fit

When picking out golf shoes getting the right fit is important because otherwise blisters can build up. Or your feet may slide around inside, which limits your stability.

When trying a pair on for the first time, listen for the 'whoosh' sound when you slide your feet in - that's the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to confirm it is the correct size, but do a walking test to be sure. They shouldn't pinch anywhere, nor should your feet be moving around inside.

When it comes to the right fit it is also worth considering different laces. Normal laces are good for most but for some golfers, BOA laced shoes provide more convenient fastening and shouldn’t loosen during the course of a round, but are usually a tad more expensive.

4. Styling

Thankfully modern golf shoe design has seen many brands not just create traditional, classic-looking shoes, but also modern styles that can be used off the golf course too. Therefore it is important to think about what your shoes look like and what style suits you. Whatever you like or dislike, there is something for everyone these days.

FAQs

Are expensive golf shoes worth it?

More expensive golf shoes will provide a few extras. Many of them will use soft, more expensive full-grain leather and incorporate more technology to add comfort in the midsole. Cheaper shoes will still offer plenty of comfort, grip and style, but more expensive golf shoes will come with some extra luxuries.
